"THE SULTAN OF MOROCCO”

12 April 1957 (USA, 20th c.)
Magos Foundation Collection.

The Alawite leader Mohammed V (1909-1961) protected the Jews during the Second World War and opposed Hitler’s orders. Mohammed V was a forerunner in the coexistence of Moroccan Muslims and Jews. He considered both communities as subjects on an equal footing. His opposition to the Vichy laws was part of this logic.
