MARIGNOLLI TAKES HIS SOURCES FROM THE QUEEN OF JAFFNA, A DESCENDANT OF THE SAME SUPPOSED CASTE AS THE MAGI GASPARD.

Marignolli came to Sri Lanka between 1330 and 1350 and wrote about the country’s customs. According to him, the country’s north was ruled by a Queen who granted him many audiences and offered him great presents. He said that the gold, silver, and pearls in her possession were unparalleled in the world. The Queen owned elephants, and Marignolli says that she moved around with one of them. The historian Ibn Battuta, who visited Jaffna in 1344, described the wealth he saw in this kingdom. In the 14th century, Jaffna was still a Tamil kingdom. The Queen of Sri Lanka belongs to the lineage of the “Velir,” descendant of the Pandyan Kings, from which Gaspard the Magus is said to have originated.
