After the death of Magdalena Grimaldi, 16th Marquess of Campot\u00e9jar, her son Ignazio Pallavicini (1800-1871) became the 17th Marquess of Campot\u00e9jar, Governor of the Generalife and also Senator of the Kingdom of Sardinia. In the 20th century, the title of Marquess of Campot\u00e9jar and the use of the Generalife are still in the Pallavicini family. It was with Matilde Giustiniani, from the lineage of the Prince of Giustiniani, widow of the 19th Marques of Campot\u00e9jar, without descendants, that the Spanish government had to negotiate the restitution of the Generalife. When Matilde Giustiniani handed over the keys to the Generalife, King Alfonso XIII of Spain granted the widow of the Marquess of Campot\u00e9jar the title of Marquess of the Generalife.
