Grandson of King Yusuf IV (16th Emir) through his father and of King Al Musta`\u00een\/Ciriza (21st Emir) through his mother, Cidi Yahya Bin Yahya was married to his cousin Citi Meriem, niece of King Yusuf IV and daughter of the Christian nobleman, Pedro Venegas de Cordoba, who had converted to Islam. At the head of an army to defend the Muslim Kingdom of Granada, Cidi Yahya surrendered and was baptized as Don Pedro de Granada Venegas on December 25, 1489, with his wife and children in the presence of the Catholic Kings who became his godparents. He received privileges and was recognized by the Catholic Monarchs as the sole heir of the \u201cCasa Real Nazari\u201d, the Nazari Sovereign House.
