He said that the gold, silver, and pearls in her possession were unparalleled in the world. The Queen owned elephants, and Marignolli says that she moved around with one of them. The historian Ibn Battuta, who visited Jaffna in 1344, described the wealth he saw in this kingdom. In the 14th century, Jaffna was still a Tamil kingdom.
